Carl J.
Freeland, District Governor
July 2003
A Note from DG Carl:

Greetings!
at the beginning of a
great trip to Denver
where I met incoming
District Governors from
around the world. We
were all in class for 4
greater things this year. Our new International
President, Tae-Sup Lee, is asking
that we “step
out of the box” and to continue
our drive for
TWO new clubs in every district
and for every
club to end the year with a plus
in membership.
working very hard to get our new
roster ready
so we can have it available at
Banner Passing.
We have a great opportunity to
join other Lions
from all across the United States
and Canada
in Portland, OR for the USA/Canada
Leader-
ship Forum in September. It’s an opportunity
for fellowship as well as
learning. The guest
speakers are some of
the best in the country;
they will really get you motivated
to go out and
work hard for the good of your
communities.

USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum
September 18-20 in Portland, OR
Take
advantage of this great opportunity to hear five professional, inspirational
speakers; participate in 40 forums; and enjoy the fellowship of Lions from
throughout the USA and Canada. What an
opportunity! All this is taking place
in our own back yard – it won’t get any closer to us for at least the next 5
years. So far we have 15 Lions from 19C
signed up. Don’t be left out! Get your registration in now for only $175
(it goes up to $185 after August 15th).
Just
a few of the seminar topics: Our Lions Quest Program, Leadership “a la Murphy’s
Law”, Goal Setting -- Key to a Club’s Future, Public Speaking – New Approaches,
and Challenges in Communications. Also,
Club Presidents will have an officer session with our new International
President Tae-Sup “TS” Lee.
And
it’s not all training – several tours will be available, including a Portland
City Tour, Lewis & Clark Country Tour, and Evergreen Air Museum and Winery
Tour.
At
the 2002 Forum in Fort Worth, there were 3,000 attendees, including 30 Lions
from MD19. Almost half of those
attendees pre-registered for the Portland Forum before they left Fort Worth. That tells us it’s well worth the effort of
driving down I-5 to
Portland!

website at www.usa-canada-lions-forum.com.

RECENT NEWS:
ANNUAL
CONVENTION IN DENVER
The new Lions International
President is Tae-Sup “TS” Lee of Seoul, Republic of Korea. He has been a Lion since 1975 and is
currently a member of the Seoul Sejong Lions Club. His slogan for 2003-2004 will be “Innovation: Gateway to Our
Future”. His goals include establishing
two new Lions Clubs in each district.
It was announced that at the end
of June 2003, there were 1920 new Lions Clubs and an increase of 13,807 members
worldwide!
All amendments were passed,
including the dues increase, necessitated by a combination of decreased
membership and increased expenses. This
amounts to a total of $15, implemented over the next 3 years. Annual dues for 2003/4 will rise from $24.00
to $28.25.

The Skookumchuck Bike Challenge
was held on June 14th, and we had a good time and raised money for a
wonderful cause.
This year we will be sending the Northwest Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation $1200!
We are getting to know some of the
riders by their first names as they have come out to support us for the last
three rides.
To the clubs that helped us with
manpower and/or donations, we all send you our sincerest THANK YOU. We hope those who missed out on the fun this
year will join us next year.
