Carl J.
Freeland, District Governor
December 2003
A Note from DG Carl:

Good news! The plans for the Spring Conference are moving right along. Registration forms are in the mail and circulating via e-mail as well. This year we are looking forward to you joining us for the Friday night fellowship dinner -- we have some very special entertainment lined up, in addition to some of the Contest and Awards entries. Just a reminder: the dress code for the Governor’s Banquet on Saturday is white dinner jackets for the visiting dignitaries, Zone Chairpersons wear their green jackets and tan slacks, men Lions and guests wear jackets and ties, and women Lions and guests wear after-5:00 evening attire.
We
recently selected a Peace Poster winner from District C to continue on to the
next level of competition. Good luck to
Ana from Lacey!
Our LEMPR team is working hard on the district’s
behalf so that we can stay on track for recruiting and retaining
members. Keep up the good work, LEMPR Lions.
Frances and I continue to enjoy our club visitations as well as the many Christmas parties we are attending.
Once
again, Happy Holidays to all of you!
Yours in Lionism,
Your District Governor
Carl J. Freeland

There are red-letter days
in our lives when we meet people who thrill us like a fine poem, people whose
handshake is brimful of unspoken sympathy and whose sweet, rich natures impart
to our eager, impatient spirits a wonderful restlessness which is in its
essence divine.
Perhaps we never saw them before and they may never
cross our life’s path again but the influence of their calm, mellow natures is
a libation poured upon our discontent, and we feel its healing touch as the
ocean feels the mountain stream freshening its brine. -- Helen Keller
Cabinet
Meeting Highlights
District
19C’s second cabinet meeting was held on November 24th, with another
great turnout of Lions.
DG Carl
welcomed everyone and made introductions, followed by a break for dinner.
Treasurer
Jim LaBelle made a short financial report.
Each Zone
Chairperson gave a brief oral report on the accomplishments of their clubs –
and there was a lot of activity to report!
DG Carl
announced, with regret, that Lions International had placed the Covington Lions
Club on “status quo” on December 1st. There are plans to rebuild the club or start a new one in the
area.
Camp Leo: This year’s camp will have two sessions,
July 7-10 for the younger campers and July 11-17 for the older ones. A camper sponsorship is $400.
Spring
Conference: This year all our
new Lions will be acknowledged at the opening session. Also, there will be a contest category for
club brochures. A new addition to Fun
Night, on Friday, will be stand-up comic Debbie Wooten and vocalist Elaine
Patterson. Contests and Awards entries
need to be in soon!
Membership: Co-Chairman Dick Risley asked for five
volunteers to help him review the membership records filed at the MD-19 office;
specifically for dropped members over the past 5 years.
Constitution
& Bylaws: There will be a
number of changes to vote on, mainly in rewording existing sections, plus the
addition of an optional Associate Zone Chairperson.
Candidates
for Higher Office 2004-2005:
PDG Dennis Knapp is running for VCC of
MD-19.
PZC Ida Malone is running for VDG of 19C.
Peace
Posters: There were
eleven great entries (from six Lions Clubs) put up for display, and everyone
was asked to vote for their favorite.
This was the first time some of us have ever seen our district’s
entries! And the winner was Ana
Ordonez, from Holy Family School, sponsored by the Lacey Sunrise Lions Club.
Thanks to
the Graham Sunrise Lions for hosting a great meeting, and to Spanapark Early
Risers for running the raffle with their usual flair!
