District 19C Newsletter

Carl J. Freeland, District Governor

March 2004

A Note from DG Carl:

I will try to put into words my feelings on our Spring Conference.  To start, I want to tell all of the Lions who worked so very hard to make the conference such a great success THANK YOU ever so much.  You really did yourselves proud this time!

For those Lions who passed up our conference, you missed out on great fellowship with some very special people.  The raffle was extra special and many thanks go to all of you who contributed gifts.  Our Fun Night was just  that – FUN!  We had some great contest and award entries and the entertainment that followed was wonderful.  We had one gentleman who played the saxophone and another who sang.  Then there was a female comedian who was just the best.  She even proposed to our own Lion Dave Risley!   He was a good sport, but had to decline the proposal.

Our International guest, ID Lowell Bonds, and his lovely wife, Carolyn, were really special, as were all the PIDs who joined us for our conference.

For all of you who joined us, thank you, especially the NEW Lions who were at their first conference.

We also now have an official VCC candidate coming from District 19C!  PDG Dennis Knapp has received the district’s endorsement, so let’s all get behind him with our support and help him to have as great a year serving as I‘ve had.

Now we need to move on as we have zone socials and new officer installations to look forward to.  From what I’ve been hearing, we have some fine new leaders moving up in our clubs as well as in the district.

L.C.I. F.

It has been recorded that District 19C Lions Clubs have donated $11,376.50 to LCIF as of January 31st, 2004.  This represents 31 of 53 Lions Clubs in District 19C.  This is OUTSTANDING but I know that we can do much better and we must in order to achieve 100% for this Lions Year.  I would like to point out that even though your Lions Club has already donated to LCIF, there is still time to send in an extra sizeable contribution to LCIF.

In 2002-2003, LCIF approved 504 grants totaling US$30,940,369.  The grants prevent vision loss, aid disaster victims, support the disabled, nurture youth and promote health.

LCIF needs the continued support of ALL Lions.  Consider becoming a Contributing Member by donating US$20, US$50 or US$100 – small donations make a BIG difference.  Look into LCIF’s Legacy Program.  This is a great way to support LCIF while helping you financially through a gift annuity.  However, the major donation to LCIF is through each Lion Club’s annual contribution – clubs should consider presenting worthy individuals with Melvin Jones Fellowships, and this award can be spaced out over a five-year period of time.

If any Lions Club does not understand why we should support LCIF, just look at the tremendous GOOD that is accomplished throughout the world and how much LCIF has sent back to District 19C in past years for the Girls and Boys Club in Lakewood, building a home in Zone 19C-4 in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, disaster relief for flood victims, and grant funds to the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing for a vision project in India.

The need for LCIF is unending so we must do OUR part, too. Any questions on LCIF, contact me, your District 19C LCIF Chairman, PZC Frank Pearce at (253) 840-3533 or 2801 20th St SE, Puyallup, WA 98374-6309 or e-mail: lionpaco@msn.com.

Remember:  Supporting another club’s fund-raiser counts as a visitation for your club’s monthly VAD!

DAFFODIL PARADE   “JUST ROCK AND ROLL”    APRIL 17th

We’ll be marching in Tacoma (10:00 am), Puyallup (12:50 pm), Sumner (3:00 pm), and Orting (5:00 pm).
The bus will leave Orting High School at 8:30 am – don’t be late!

Zone C-5 Encounter at the Mall Saturday, March 27

The clubs of C-5 will be participating in an informational and recruiting booth at the Puyallup South Hill Mall.  They will be promoting Lionism and educating the public about our service to our communities and those in need.  It will also be a chance to find some potential Lions and invite them to serve.

Stop by and show your support!

IF

If all the sleeping members would wake up,
And all the lukewarm members would fire up,
And all the disgruntled members would sweeten up,
And all the depressed members would look up,
And all the estranged members would make up,
And all the agitators would dry up,
And all the delinquents would pay up,
What a wonderful group we would have!
